SYNOPSIS

Lust and jealousy blossom as Cécile, a regal and mysterious young African traveller comes to live at the home of Fanny, an awkward white teenager sequestered in a bubble of wealth. In a lush, ruthless world that evokes both the pre-Civil War South and postcolonial Western Europe, Cécile falls in love with Rufus, the gardener’s son, igniting Fanny’s own perverse awakening. As both girls realize that the world they inhabit is not what it appears, they band together to outsmart a domestic and state system of cruelty that is meant to keep them in line. Illuminating the subterranean forces of slavery as it was practiced by women, STEAL AWAY is a psychological thriller that tells the tale of two teenage girls who fight the powers that be.
